Conceptual Photography is sometimes a hard thing to define. However once youve got the hang of what is and isnt conceptual you will find yourself seeing and creating concepts out of everyday life just like that. Im determined to help make that happen!
Conceptual is about trying to recreate your fears, dreams, thoughts and ideas in an image. More often than not a Conceptual shot is set up. It is carefully processed and manipulated in set up and in-camera to convey the concept. However from time to time as I am more frequently finding you will notice you stumble upon Conceptual shots completely by accident.
Sometimes those are the best kind!
If its conceptual it will make you think twice, you may see a double meaning, you will be astounded by the thought pr

"This is..." will be a series of informative articles that will also feature great works around dA. Every time an issue is out a collection related with its theme will also be made, so that the promotion and awareness doesn't end here.
This is... CONCEPTUAL!!!
Sol Lewitt's definition of 'Conceptual Art': "In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art."
dA's definition of Conceptual: "Conceptual images that show an idea and is planned out before the shot is taken." This means that the thought and concept comes before the image and is in agreement with Sol Lewitt's definition. For most photography we conceive an idea for the shots that we take from the things that we see and come across. But these shots are not specifically conceptual as they have not been planned out and have instead been created by tak

One of the best quotes to define Conceptual Art:
" In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art...." *Sol Lewitt
Conceptual work with Still Life / Studio work and sometimes with People allows you more time to execute your idea. Conceptual Photography in Nature (and sometimes with people) can require some faster thinking.
